How to search detailed germplasm information

Things to remember:

1.) When retrieving the data using multiple conditions, AND operator is being used.

Example of multiple conditions:  Red seedcoat Oryza sativa coming from Malaysia.  There are 3 conditions here:  i) red seedcoat, ii) Oryza sativa species, iii) coming from Malaysia.  The 3 conditions are connected by AND operator, which means that all 3 conditions should be satisfied.

2.) To search by range of IRGC accession numbers, enter the Start and Last accession numbers.    For individual accession, enter it twice (example: 105 to 105).

3.) To search by variety name,  you can do either of the following:

a.) type the full name (example: BASMATI) on the space provided, opposite  the descriptor name, 'Variety name'. This will retrieve accessions with exact name entered.

b.) type only a portion of the name (e.g. BAS) on the space provided, opposite the descriptor name, 'Variety name'.  There is no need to type the wild card (*).  This will retrieve accessions with the word BAS anywhere in the name.

Important:   Type the name in CAPS (example: BASMATI).

4.) To download or save the retrieved data, click the Download button found at the button of the screen, then do any of the following:

a) To save it in M. Excel or M. Access or in any spreadsheet or database file:

Save it first As Text File, then Open it in M. Excel or M. Access or in any desired spreadsheet or database software, then Save.

b) To save it a Word document:

Select All and Copy the retrieved data and Paste it on a blank Word document and Convert Text to Table, then Save.

Procedure on how to search detailed info:

1. Enter the criteria for searching the data, by using any of the following methods:

  • Type the value being searched for on the space provided opposite each descriptor name.
    In the example below,
Variety name is the descriptor and  BASMATI is the value being searched for.

  • or  Click the Down Arrow key to select from the List of valid values (LOV).
In the example below, Species name is the descriptor and List of valid Species name is displayed upon clicking the Down Arrow key.

  • or Type the range of values of continuous data.
In the example below, the range of values of
Grain length, or Grain width, etc.. could be entered.

2. After entering the criteria, you may now select the desired output by choosing from the list opposite 'Choose output ... '.
In the example below, the choices displayed are;
Listing for Accession basic info, Collecting team info, Locating location info, ... Grain quality.

Content of each listing is briefly explained below:

    Listing name Description

    Accession basic info

Refers to the accession ID and data given by the donor/collector (i.e. Accession no, variety name, collection no., source country, code given by seed donor, donor country, sender, etc.)
Collecting location info Refers to the place or location where the germplasm is collected and location data (i.e. province, district, latitude, longitude, alt, etc.)
Morpho-agronomic descriptions Refers to the morphological and agronomic description of an accession (i.e. plant height, seedcoat color, maturity, culm no., variety group) . Outputs for all morpho –agronomic data consists of 4 pages.

The data is in coded value.

Disease resistance Refers to the data on the reaction to different diseases (i.e. bacterial blight, blast, rice tungro virus, sheath blight, etc.)
Insect resistance Refers to the data on the reaction to different insects (i.e. Brown plant hopper, green leaf folder, rice leaf folder, yellow stemborer, etc.)
Physio-chemical stresses Refers to the data on the reaction to physio-chemical stresses (e.g. drought, flood, etc.)
Grain quality Refers to the data on grain quality (i.e. amylose & protein contents)

3. Then select the number of records to be displayed per page.   You may use the default number which is 25 records.

4.  Finally, submit the query by clicking the 'Submit query' button.   To create a new query, click the 'Reset' button.
